The late Carlos Alvarez was a beloved leader, mentor and friend whose generosity and vision helped shape UTSA’s boldest aspirations. Over the course of his life, Alvarez and his family committed significantly to the university, supporting student success, graduate fellowships, faculty excellence and institutional growth.
Alongside his wife Malú, he made a landmark $20 million gift to name the Carlos Alvarez College of Business—the first business college in the UT System to carry the name of a Latino and the first named college in university history. As a Be Bold Campaign Co-Chair, Alvarez helped guide the university through a pivotal chapter in its development.
Following his passing in 2024, he is remembered not only for his philanthropy, but also for his deep belief in education and the lasting opportunities he created for generations of Roadrunners.
