UT San Antonio student works behind the scenes to prepare for the new Institute of Texan Cultures space

Curatorial intern Denali Gonzales gains art conservation experience ahead of museum reopening

Denali Gonzales, an art history and criticism major from UT San Antonio, has always had an interest in art and science. She was able to connect these two interests as a curatorial intern at the Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC), where she joined the mighty team behind the reopening of the museum’s new space at Houston and Camaron Streets.

Through hands-on work in collections, exhibits and education, Gonzales gained experience in artifact handling, condition reporting and conservation, while also supporting preparations for the ITC’s new location and grand opening. The internship helped her discover a passion for art conservation science and clarify her career path.

WATCH: Hear how the Institute of Texan Cultures allowed Denali Gonzales to learn what it takes to work in a museum.
